The SCPJMP is a statutory body established under the Sindh Commission for the Protection of Journalists and Other Media Practitioners Act, 2021. It works to ensure the safety and protection of journalists and media workers in Sindh.

The Commission is formed under the Sindh Commission for the Protection of Journalists and Other Media Practitioners Act, 2021, passed by the Sindh Assembly.

* Journalists: Any person engaged in print, news website, or any broadcast medium. OR any freelancer working in print, news website, or broadcast medium

* Media Practitioners: Anyone collecting, processing, or disseminating information via mass communication i.e. Camerapersons, Photographers, Technical support staff, drivers, interpreters, editors, translators, publishers, broadcasters, printers and distributors.

The official Secretariat of the Commission is located at Sindh Archives, street no. 26/A, Clifton Block 5, Karachi. The Google Location is visible on the website.

Yes, all the district offices of Information Department are declared as the regional offices of the Commission. All the district and regional Information Officers are notified as focal persons of the Commission.

The current Minister Information is Mr. Sharjeel Inam Memon.

The current Secretary Information is Mr. Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon.

The present Chairperson of the SCPJMP is Mr. Aijaz Ahmed Memon.

• Ensure the safety and security of journalists and media practitioners
• Investigate threats, harassment, and violence against journalists
• Recommend protection measures to relevant authorities
• Monitor press freedom violations in the province

Any journalist or media practitioner working in Sindh, or any person or organization aware of threats to a journalist’s safety, can approach the Commission.

The Commission deals with:

• Threats or violence against journalists
• Harassment, illegal detention, abduction, or intimidation
• Violations of journalistic freedom

Threats and undue force to disclose the news source

A complaint can be submitted:

• In writing to the Commission’s Secretariat, situated at Sindh Archives, street 26/A block 5 Clifton Karachi, or at any district office of the Information Department/ Focal Person
• Online through the official website sindh.gov.pk
• By email or other contact channels published on the website

The Commission can recommend:

• Police protection for individuals at risk
• Legal assistance

Yes, the Commission coordinates closely with the Home Department, Sindh Police, and other agencies to investigate threats and enforce safety measures.

Yes, where necessary, the Commission can coordinate with legal aid providers or recommend legal assistance in cases of arrest, harassment, or lawsuits targeting journalistic work.
