Mr. Akbar also actively participated in extracurricular activities in his university life, taking on leadership roles such as General Secretary (77-78) and Vice President of the English Literary Society (78-79) at Karachi University. His contributions extended to editorial responsibilities for 'Harvest,' the annual magazine of the Department of English.

He earned his LLB in 1983 and Post-Master in Law (LLM) in 1987 from S. M. Law College Karachi. During this time, he also remained an active journalist. He was associated with the daily “Morning News” as a reporter and contributed several stories and articles on various topics. His first “letter to the editor” was published in the “Daily Dawn” in 1982 also an article. He also worked as a trainee Sub-editor in the daily Business Recorder and wrote several Book Review for “Business Recorder” in 1983-84 when renowned and highly respected senior Journalist Zamir Niazi was editor in-Charge and Magazine editor of Business Recorder.

Mr. Akbar on completion of his basic law degree joined his father’s law firm “Hasan Akbar & Company, Advocates” to start practicing law in the subordinate judiciary on 18 January 1986 in Karachi. Soon he qualified the Public Service Commission to be appointed Civil Judge and First Class Magistrate in 1987. However, his ambition to achieve excellence in the profession forced him to quit this job after about 18 months. He continued his journey as a legal practitioner with enrollment at the High Court of Sindh in July 1989, followed by enrollment in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in February 2005. His commitment to public service led him to play a key role as Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan from Feb. 2009 –April 2011, advocating for governmental interests in constitutional and legal matters.

Throughout his career, Nazar Akbar has contributed articles initially in print media as a journalist and as a lawyer in legal journals. Some of his most acclaimed articles as a lawyer include (1) Role of Bar and Judiciary in Pakistan: (2) The First Thing We Do Let’s Kill All the Lawyers: and (3) A Tara Masih amongst the Lawyers.

 For 8 years, Mr. Nazar Akbar remained a judge of the Sindh High Court. His judicial tenure as a Judge of the High Court featured his expertise in diverse areas of law, including constitutional, civil, criminal, and corporate matters. Lawyers and students greatly benefited from his judgments published in different law digests.

When the first-ever Special Court for trying a case of ‘High Treason’ against General Pervaiz Musharraf under Article 6 of the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan was set up, Justice Nazar Akbar was nominated to fill the vacancy on recusal of justice represent the SHC on the Special Court. He rejected the prosecution's claim with highly legal and logical reasoning and acquitted the accused sent up for trial. The other two members of the court, however, sentenced the accused to death.

Justice Nazar Akbar's legacy is defined not only by his legal expertise but also by his dedication to upholding justice and legal excellence in Pakistan.
